Fine Art of Blogging

step out of my box

My blogging experience started from necessity: I was looking for a way to keep my friends and family informed on what was happening in my life at that time, preferably less time consuming that writing emails to all of them…. Starting a blog seemed like a good way, although I kept on writing also directly to my friends… So, I played a little bit with templates until I found one that I liked, discovered the multiple functionalities of blogger.com, and started to write and upload photos. I called it ‘My thoughts from far, far away’ - impresiiDdeparte. I was not so far away, only 600 km from home. Still, it was the first time I went to work abroad… And first time away from home for more that few weeks.

When I came back in Romania, I thought the blog lost its purpose, so I just added a good-bye message and left it like this… Now, I think I found a way to reactivate it, and continue to write my traveling impressions….

Then, I started ‘steps out of my box’… Why?.... For me, blogging is like a night out in town. You get dressed nicely, and go meet your friends. You sit down and start talking… What happened lately in your life, what did you heard that was interesting, what you like or don’t like and so on. You think you’ll only meet your friends, but maybe more people are coming along… And if you are on a terrace, let’s say, there will be some that will only observe you from distance and maybe make some remarks. But at lest you will have a nice conversation with your friends, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to make new ones.

Same with my blog. My posts are about things that could only be interesting to my friends. I don’t know fits good or bad. It’s just the way I do it now

Recently, I took a break in writing on my blog. Partially, because I was really busy and didn’t make some time to write, partially because I felt I don’t really have what to write about, but mostly because I needed to give a direction to my blog. I looked at the statistics I receive weekly about the number of visitors and where are they coming from and I found (to my surprise) that I have visitors from all over the world.

This was nice, but it also gave me a feeling of responsibility towards them – is my blog really interesting, or they got there accidentally and they’ll never come back?

So… I guess quite soon I will try to put there more ‘relevant’ content for people outside of my close circle of friends. Haven’t figured yet what exactly will that be :)

What is this blog for me?

Is blogging for me a ‘fine art’? Well… I have no special talent in expressing my thoughts in writing. But if I think about the purpose of art, the way I understand it, it might be. As art for me is something that makes people think, ask themselves questions, and try to find answers. Is a way to ‘work out’ your imagination, when you try to understand what was the purpose of the artist, what was the idea behind the image, shape, word, or sound… Or just enjoying the feeling left after an encounter with an artist …

When I put it this way, I do consider blogging to be a fine art. I read many posts on many blogs on many, many subjects. I did not get an expert opinion, but most of the time I got an insight in someone’s life, work, or just a result of his/her imagination. And I felt good, and somehow connected with people all over the world… actually, the world seemed a lot smaller, and much more accessible.

Blogging is a form of expression for sure. I guess I wan't quite prepared for the social aspect, but it is nice.

Fine Art Claimer

My blogs are a resource for my writings. More often, I blog informally, sharing impressions, generating ideas to see how they invoke reactions, keeping track of others’ work in the fields of my interest, or simply ranting or pointing out things that come to my attention.

Also, I use blogging as a platform to prune ideas. This is where I meet others and share experiences. “I am neither geek, nor nerd, I am not a hacker, a phreaker, a programmer or any variety of technoid dweeb.”
