To me, a blog is a place for self-expression. Although I have half a dozen blogs, most are neglected as I focus in on my more personal blogs. I blog when I feel compelled to do so - I don't try to follow a strict publishing schedule. Because I tend to blog about very personal issues, there is a lot of emotion involved in not only blogging but also in receiving comments to my blog posts.

I've been publishing online since 1987, building Web sites since 1994 and using the Internet for self-expression as well as self-promotion the entire time. I even kept an online diary of my year-long solo travels across the United States at http://www.rvgirl.com - before I formally started using blog software to publish my thoughts and feelings online.

One thing I really love about blogging is the community that can form around your blog. On one of my blogs, I know there are many women who visit regularly because they post messages to me and discuss issues I've introduced in my blog posts. Sometimes, the comments are not positive ones. There is always someone who posts something hurtful to me or about me. But I vowed to keep all of those comments on the blog unless someone posts something hurtful about another woman in my blog community. I try to maintain the integrity of the organic nature of the blog community forming around my blog - good and bad.

The best part of blogging is to make a connection - not a business connection but a personal one where someone says "Thank you so much for blogging about that issue. It has helped me." Touching people's lives – that is the whole reason I wanted to be a writer and that is a main driving force for me to blog.

Oh yes, I've done the same thing to myself...too many blogs and it's hard to keep up. I'm lucky that I've only received one spam comment so far, I feel very forunate. Almost everyone has something nice to say.
I just found the comment you left on my blog, I somehow missed it, I will add your link to Christy's Coffee Break, sorry for the delay, but better late than never I suppose.

Have a great day! :)

What is a blog to you?

Internet is a lonely place without Blogging; a fine art, science, also economics. Blogs are different to different people. Fine Art of Blogging asks you to share your views on what is a blog to you?

Please contribute your thoughts on blogging in general. In particular, write how you blog? Why? How blogging matters in life and work? Success stories and inspirations. Answer these questions and more (add what you feel is important dimension for you) and email me.

My blogs are a resource for my writings. More often, I blog informally, sharing impressions, generating ideas to see how they invoke reactions, keeping track of others’ work in the fields of my interest, or simply ranting or pointing out things that come to my attention.

Also, I use blogging as a platform to prune ideas. This is where I meet others and share experiences. “I am neither geek, nor nerd, I am not a hacker, a phreaker, a programmer or any variety of technoid dweeb.”
